FYI: Please be informed and comfortable with your own research.
I am not an expert on this history.
    I have gleaned a
ll of the historical information from other listings of similar humidors.
There are a couple of other humidors listed or sold on ebay.
Below is a quote from the description of a similar box listed on Kensington House Antiques online here:

    ?
“England and Russia signedthe Anglo-Russian Entente in 1907, and along with the Entente Cordiale (England& France) and the Franco-Russian Alliance (France & Imperial Russia),the three nations formed the Triple Entente that eventually entered into WorldWar I against Germany and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Anglo-RussianEntente greatly leveled the balance of power in Continental Europe and waswidely celebrated. This box was created in honor of that event and may havebeen a mid-level diplomatic gift from a British representative to his Russianpeer. Although we have not seen it, we understand that the same box exists withthe French arms on the lid in place of Romanov double eagle.
    Origin: England, ca. 1907)
    Condition
I bought this interesting humidor at auction from a fine antique store that was going out of business because I liked it. It is in very good condition and only has “imperfections”in keeping with a hand crafted item. It is structurally sound as when crafted.
The exterior and interior and all parts are in good condition with what one would expect in terms of patina and marks on the brass.
Please view the photos carefully and ask any questions that you may have.
    *INTERESTING NOTE:
In comparing this piece to others listed or sold online, do you think craftsmen could have used whole punches for parts of the embossed lions and double headed eagles as the figures seem much more precise and detailed than they do this humidor?
Look closely at the photos to see that the main features on this box appear to be done strictly by individual small handtools as the details are more rudimentary.
Or, could this mean it was crafted by a beginner or an apprentice?
Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated!
